IMPORTANT NOTICE

During the next period of time, the Thecus Wiki will migrate to a new site - the NAS Website. The migration is part of an improvement initiative, which includes giving the site a new look and making it more user friendly.

During the migration information may exist both at the old and new site, however slowly pages should start to be located mainly at the new site. Please see the NAS Website for details.

N5200Pro Module Wishlist

From Thecus Wiki

[1. Proxy (Squid)] (See http://www.paltoglou.de/N5200/debian.php)

[2. Mysql] (See http://www.paltoglou.de/N5200/debian.php) The Slimserver module contains MySQL Version: 5.0.21-standard you may be able to hook into that.

Try poking around in /raid0/data/module/SLIMSERVER/slimserver

I believe the default user/pass is slimserver, I'm not sure if a password is set on the root account.

[3. Proxy (Privoxy) - which used to be Junkbuster] Would be great to have a proxy server like this running so that other clients can use it to remove unwanted ads, trap cookies etc. (thanks)

[4. Openvpn] (See http://www.paltoglou.de/N5200/debian.php) (FW 2.00.14) Have a look at /img/bin/openvpn. Use module SSH and configure best in /raid0/data/module/IMGDUP/system/etc (module IMGDUP), then use module META to autostart/-stop it.

[5. Tor - the onion router]

[6. File Versioning] Have different versions of the same file

Simply mirroring data onto a backup device is not enough. This feature should make snapshots and keep them for a specific amount of time according to a backup plan. The historic files should be accessable either by web interface or through a directory structure. Examples of OSS tools for this are backuppc or rsnapshot. This feature would greatly enhance the use of this appliance, making it a true backup appliance.

[7. LogOut user] I would like to have thus function : When user "LogOut" log-inm the system will shut-down. I already see something simlilar for non "Pro" of Thecus N5200, but unfortunately I have the Pro version. (I already read that some modules for N5200 are compatible with N5200 Pro, but noone actually confirm any module like a want realy works on Pro version.)

[8. TFTP Server] A TFTP daemon to allow to load OS images via PXE/Etherboot to thinclients.]

[9. "BASKET"] Is it possible for someone to create a module which it use like a "basket"(windows garbage) when you delete some folder on the Thecus Nas. best regards

[10. SqueezeCenter Media Server] To support SqueezeCenter 7.2 please - as available here.

[11. iftop] iftop does for network usage what top(1) does for CPU usage. It listens to network traffic on a named interface and displays a table of current bandwidth usage by pairs of hosts. - I think it is a nice tool to use iftop

[12. AFS File Server] The Andrew File System (AFS) is a Kerberos protected unified path network file system which allows global file access from intra and inner AFS cell clients. The AFS Server is run by a handful of userspace only binaries, configurations and key file. This would transform the Thecus NAS appliances into AFS Network Appliances that could make an AFS cell easily scalable.

[13. Bacula Backup System] (See http://www.paltoglou.de/N5200/debian.php) Bacula is an enterprise level open source backup system.

  • Bacula File Daemon - The bacula File daemon would make the Thecus a backup target and integrate right into an existing bacula domain.
  • Bacula Storage Daemon - The bacula storage daemon would allow a Thecus NAS to be turned into an online bacula storage device, allowing bacula file daemons to store full, diff, and inc backup jobs withing bacula file based archives.

[14. Bootup password] NAS server to require a bootup password to deliver files from the filesystem. Filesystem itself would not need to be encrypted but accessing any files on the raid disks without password would need knowledge of inner workings of Thecus. Also some random garbage on beginning of disks so that filesystem would not be automatically found on other computers.
