IMPORTANT NOTICE

During the next period of time, the Thecus Wiki will migrate to a new site - the NAS Website. The migration is part of an improvement initiative, which includes giving the site a new look and making it more user friendly.

During the migration information may exist both at the old and new site, however slowly pages should start to be located mainly at the new site. Please see the NAS Website for details.

About the list

This page contains wishes for new N2100 modules. If you have a wish/suggestion for a new module, please add it to the list and make sure to include a thorough description of purpose, funtionality, usage etc.

If you are a module developer with a little spare time, feel free to implement a module of your preference. Make sure to have a look at the N2100 Module Development page.

The Wishlist

  • Crypto - Mounting TrueCrypt container files similar to the already embedded feature of mouting ISO-files would be really great.
  • Antivirus - to repair infected files (comand line or remote gui)
  • A Trashcan - to recover accidentally deleted files
  • TeamSpeak 2 Server - for the players amongst us
  • NZB Processor - A module to process (download, verify and unpack) NZB files. For example HellaNZB & SABnzbd.
  • iSCSI support - To be able to mount the device as a local disk.
  • Networking module (BIND9) - A module to setup the N2100 as a network component. DNS server, DHCP server and Routing.
  • Mailserver - A module that allows you to host your own emails. (Should this include MTA, POP, IMAP, webmail?)
  • Two Printers - A module that extends the current printer functionality, so you can attach more than just a single printer to the N2100.
  • SNMP - A module implementing SNMP to get statistics from the N2100, such as temperature, load, diskspace etc.
  • Backup exec agent - A module so that the N2100 can be backed up through the network to removable media more quickly, using backup exec, as its a very common backup software.
  • SMART on HD - Details of the SMART information from the harddrive(s)
  • VLC server - VLCto enable the 2100 as a streaming server. I'm unsure if the processor on the 2100 is powerful enough to do transcoding. I'm using the Haupauge Media MVP (MPEG-2 hardware) which supports connecting to a VLC server to stream MPEG-4 (divx etc) to the MVP.

Now it should be possible since there are modules/packager for other Linux NAS: Package: vlc Version: 0.9.8a-1 Depends: dbus Suggests: faad2, ffmpeg, flac, freetype, fribidi, liba52, libdvbpsi, libdvdnav, libdvdread, libid3tag, libmad, libmpcdec, libmpeg2, libogg, libpng, libshout, libupnp, libvorbis, libxml2, ncursesw, speex , avahi , x264 Section: video Architecture: arm Maintainer: NSLU2 Linux <nslu2-linux@yahoogroups.com> MD5Sum: ab3b5b68f9fb075a0862c7b6b9694556 Size: 3335370 Filename: vlc_0.9.8a-1_arm.ipk Source: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.9.8a/vlc-0.9.8a.tar.bz2 Description: VLC is a cross-platform media player and streaming server. • IDS - Intrusion Detection System - would be interesting a module to install Snort (http://www.snort.org). Since this open source sw uses MySQL to store its log, it implies that also a module to install MySQL is needed. To see in an intelligible manner the snort's logs, ACID (http://acidlab.sourceforge.net/), a web based interface, can be used.
  • Thecus photo gallery isn't sophisticated enough. It would be nice if we can install Gallery 2 as a module. This also uses MYSQL database and thus a mysql module would be good. A light weight version of mysql for embedded servers can be found here: [1]. This might be prove useful.
  • MySQL a lightweight version of MySQL for other modules that might need it to be running for web apps, maintaining logs, online media and gallery applications.
  • A login for members of a workgroup to switch the N2100 off without having access to the settings. Possibility for the last user leaving the office switching the NAS off.
  • Easy-to-use solution for a scheduled backup/restore functionality of N2100 data to another device (attached USB drive / FTP server / SMB share).
  • oxyl - a powerfull, free media server, supports streaming clients based on chipsets of Sigma Designs EM 8550 or 8620 like Transgear DVX 500 E, Pinnacle Showcenter 1000 and 200, Neuston, Elegato...
  • nrpe - a nagios nrpe client for nagios integration and plugins for monitor appropriate aspects
  • ldap integration - support for pam_ldap and ns_ldap for integration for user/group integration
  • pDNSd DNS caching daemon - not a DNS server, just a single point to do name resolution and cache others or later use.
